Having never done this I figured I might try and start a blog.
2006 was going pretty good for me right up until the end of February. I had just been given a promotion at work with a decent raise.
Mid Feb my sister called and said that my Dad hadn't been feeling well since mid Jan and she would be taking him to see some doctors. Cheryl called on Feb 15th and told me that Dad was in fact very ill and the prognosis was not good but more appointments with the Doc's were planed. I called Dad and had a good chat. Then on Feb 23, 2006 Cheryl called and said my Dad who had been given 6-8 weeks just that Monday had taken a bad turn and was in the hospital. She suggested I get out to BC right away. I flew out the next morning. Richard had booked my ticket and when we got to the airport I tried to express check in but it wouldn't let me. I went to an agent an I was told my ticket was booked for March 24th not Feb 24th. Well as you can imagine I kinda fell apart. The agent assured me they would get me on my flight. She worked her magic and at no extra charge she got me on my flight. (WTG Air Canada!). I got to Victoria on time and was picked up and taken to the hospital. Dad was in pretty rough shape and he didn't know I was there. I spent the next couple of days, with my brother Rick and 3 sisters, Debbie, Cheryl and Susan, at my Dad's side. Dad passed away quietly at 9:08 pm (PST) on February 26, 2006. Dad's memorial was March 7th. I came back to Ont very late on March 8th.
When I got up the next morning and checked my email I found out one of my oldest friends had passed away on March 8th from a sudden heart attack. Kevin Lightfoot was 51. He was a very special man and I will miss him.
So now I am trying to get some normalcy back into my life but last week drained me and I won't be the same for a long time.
Miss and Love you Dad !!!
